[GreenKeys] Western Electric KS 5928 Rectifier questions

Hello everyone.

My model 19 has a Western Electric KS 5928 L6 rectifier aboard it. The
smaller board that was neatly wired up to it in the wiring compartment
appears to be a loop supply of sorts as well. With a connection to 120 V
AC, a 1000 ohm 20W ceramic resistor and two zener diodes, and some other
components that are still, oddly enough, available, and one 6" x 6" heat
sink, it appears to be quite formidable. I have not powered up either, but
I will later today with my variac, isolation transformer and a nice big
fire extinguisher handy at a table out in my carport. After all, the only
time Mr. Smoke Alarm should be going off in my house is if I am cooking!

Has anyone went through the W.E. KS 5928, replaced the caps and selenium
rectifier and made sure everything was safely up to spec? It seems like a
good loop supply for the machine, and I would like to keep it with my 19 if
possible. I have a PP-987 recapped and with the selenium rectifiers in
place but bypassed, with new components and diodes pulling duty for a loop
supply and panel for a later date. After testing I will have some idea of
what to do next, but thought I'd ask. I got a B.S.P for "teletypewriter
station installation and maintenance" from the Navy Radio site (thank you,
Nick!!). If there is a schematic for the KS 5928 available, I would be
indebted hugely if I could obtain a .pdf copy as a reference before digging
into this beast.

Thus beginneth my odyssey toward RTTY Roundup 2019... and some other stuff
too.

73 de KE5LIB!

Mark
