Page 20 of the 2B manual shows the passband response.

The problem with the .5 KHz setting is that it's -6 dB at 500 Hz.
This means both tones are "down the skirts" on the sides of the
passband. This makes tuning for "equal tone amplitude" a bit
tricky. This is where the 'scope ellipse display comes in handy.

It would be easier to use the 2.1 KHz setting. Then adjust the
passband tuning  more to eliminate adjacent interference either
up or down from the desired signal.
