I don't know for sure, but considering the vast number Teletype machines
sold for 60 Hz power I would imagine they paid for 60 Hz motors, and
only bought 50 Hz motors when the customer required them.  And Teletype
didn't do a lot of international business - Lorenz in Germany had the
license to make the same machinery for the European market.

You could run the 60 Hz motor at 50 Hz but the current through the 
windings would be somewhat excessive because of the lower frequency
and not enough inductance.
