Aha!  I only looked at my copy of 1114B, which is a fairly late one, and
didn't think to try Nick's site.  So probably the "LS" means "low speed".

Seems unlikely to me too, but the fact that gears were manufactured for
that speed shows that it was used at one time.  Possibly for 
inter-operation with older teleprinters.
