When I was working I and others used Kroil by the case.  Works very well ,
especially if soaked over night.

We had some mercury vapor lights and found if sprayed toward the threads it
would loosen them so the bulb could be unscrewed very easy.

Except that it doesn't work.

The ONE thing that DOES work for dealing with rusted stuff is Kroil. Despite
all the old wives' tales about ATF and <pick one> Kroil really is #1 and it
does exactly what it says it will do.

Last month I decided to fix the mortised door latch on my front door. The
house was built in 1935. As expected the two screws holding the mortise
together were frozen solid. A spritz of Kroil a few minutes to let it soak
in and they unscrewed without any effort.
