That looks very promising.  If I am parsing it right, removing the TP187001 clip from slots A-0 and A-8 means that sending a Control-R will automatically turn on the tape punch and sending a Control-T turns it off.  Has anyone actually done that?

Page 16 and 21 talks about a print suppression control solenoid for controlling printing which I believe Wayne has appropriately pointed out is probably not on my machine, or is that something I may be looking in the wrong place for?

I made a small block out of aluminum that has a keeper jam screw in it. Here are a couple of pictures. It will keep the hammer from hitting the type wheel. Carraige returns, bells and all the control function will still work.

If you build something to punch without printing it will need a special suppression codebar which is not easy to install.  I have never attempted it.  Its a parts kit that I have seen somewhere.  

A solenoid will hold the codebar to the right and down when energized the same as the homemade part does.  

I have seen them installed on Jones & Lamson Editors that I used to work on for J&L in Springfield, VT.  They had about 15 in house.  The purpose was when the 8K (yes, 8K) memory computer would change ASCII to EIA and punch the EIA tape program.  Believe it or not, I actually  ended up repairing the computer as well as the 33's.  Alden Self Transit was the computer company and they went out of business.  It was 3 power supplies and 3 circuit boards with 8 proms.  About 50 screws to take cover off the circuit board section.
