[GreenKeys] TU replacement

I've been copying ITTY with an old TU I built years ago.  It was for 850 
shift, 7 transistor and a polar relay.  Can't find any documents on it.

So I figure it's not going to last forever.  The mod for narrow shift 
hangs on its leads.  When I found it, it looks like it used to have a 
switch to switch between wide and narrow shift, that's gone.

Enough history.

I've been reading docs about MMTTY, fldigi etc.  As near as I can tell 
they all are oriented towards squirting characters on the screen. I 
don't see an option to drive an external printer either by bit banging a 
digital I/O port or a USB device like the volpe board.

Is there an existing solution and I missed it or?
