[GreenKeys] DURA Selectric ASR terminals free

That's probably the article I was thinking about too. If I recall correctly, I was able to fit the program into one 1702 EPROM. I got it working and had it clacking away in the shop, the owner was so anxious to demo it to a customer he pulled the power cord and grabbed the Selectric and started to carry it to the sales floor. Unfortunately, he didn't unplug the ribbon cable and tore the wires off of the connector at the computer. I had to scramble to re-solder the wires back to the connector so he could show it to the customer. I don't think we ever sold more than two of the setups though.

Boy that title sounded familiar and sure enough, that's the circuit I used. Very clever how the hardware was so minimal yet worked just fine. I wouldn't have known enough about the IO Selectric to figure out how to use the CK line that way ;-) It would be easy to use an Arduino to drive this logic nowadays and have a serial interface, but no, I'm not interested in going back there!

It is a kick to look back thru the early days of "home computers" in these old Kilobaud magazines, however. All of Wayne Green's magazines had a good combination of hardware, software, educational, and industry information. I even saw a product announcement I wrote back in '78 ;-)
