Working on a TT-98D today and was surprised to find that it had
automatic "Line Feed-on-Carriage Return."  I had forgotten (from 50
years ago) that feature existed! Was on the TT-98C model also.

LF-on-CR is a good feature to have on RATT/RTTY, but when the other
station is always sending CR, LF at the end of every line, it means that
your printed text is double spaced and you use twice as much paper!

I assumed there would be an adjustment to disable this feature. The
manual describes the function, but makes no mention of how to disable
it.  However, looking closely at the mechanism, I found that is possible
to disable LF-on-CR.  See TM 11-5815-200-35, Feb 1966, Fig 1-42.  Just
loosen the 3/16" nut on top of the LF-on-CR pawl and rotate the pawl
away (to the front) from the draw bar.

If you ever want to put your TT-98C or D back onto RTTY, you can just
swing the pawl back into position. But you may have to play with it some
as there is no information in the manual about exactly where it should
be set.

Have fun & happy New Year,
