[GreenKeys] M28 features for RTTY operation today?

When I built a ‘glass teletype’ out of an 8080 processor board and wrote a program I set it up so that after 65 characters it would look for a space and then send a CR CR LF LTRS to start a new line. If it reached 72 characters that sequence would be inserted. As I has an ASCII keyboard I set the Enter key to do the same. I also had it set so that I could set it where it would overline and I would have to enter the end of line sequence by using a control key on the keyboard and a letter for each of the things like LTRS and FIGS.

I guess that as RTTY became more computer than mechanical, the computers would automatically start a new line on the screen, so the end of line sequence was not sent as many were unaware of how the printers operated and it took some time for the carriage of a model 15 to return.

I really hated to keep watch on the printer so I could mechanically do a return and line feed.

At that time my printer was a model 19 so there was no option for me to install a no over line on the printer.

Hi Nick,

MMTTY has two options that apply:

The first is to send an automatic CR LF at the start of every transmission. The other option that can be selected is "word wrap on keyboard" That option keeps the letter of a word together when you get to the end of a line. However, this is only on the computer screen of the transmitting station as the size of the MMTTY window will vary depending on how the individual operator has set up his MMTTY window. Neither is a big help for a mechanical RTTY machine operator.

The bottom line that always works for me...install "non-overline" and "auto CR LF" per the instructions from Irv in RTTY Journal. Remember, you can also use the red LOC LF and LOC CR keys if something goes wrong.

Thanks 73
