I tried to respond to a few CQs, but was able to make just one QSO. These guys are just going too fast for my eyes, brain, and fingers to get coordinated with one another. They don’t leave enough time in between CQs to even respond. I’m a RTTY newbie also, but I think the Heavy Metal machines are best suited for more casual QSOs. Leave the contesting to the computers.

I decided to use my 6400M as my RF unit, instead of my KWM-2, so I could quickly to tune to a signal. However, that doesn’t help much. As Nick said, most of the time you can’t even hear the other guy. And, he can’t hear you with all the distant QRM that you can’t hear.

Maybe when the din calms down a bit I’ll try again.
