OK; one more go-around on this issue.
(I was the lead engineer).
M - Manager / T - Tony
M: It's 9:00am. WHERE IS EVERYBODY!?!?!?!
T: They're out doing their PMs. They'll be here in about
a 1/2 hour if they don't get paged on the way.
M: WTF is a "PM"?
T: Preventive Maintenance: filters need to be replaced,
error logs examined, airways checked, parts examined for
wear, etc.
M: ??? - Well YOU TELL THEM I want them in the office first
thing in the morning!!!
T; They're not going to be able to complete their PM schedules
because the only time we can get the machines away from the
customer is before their work day begins.
M: Don't argue with me! Just DO IT!!!
T: <thinking> OK, you want it your way, you'll get it your way...
<a month goes by>
M: We've got the WORST PM completion rate FOR THE ENTIRE AREA!
Why is that?!?!?
T: Well, YOU SAID you want the engineers in the office first thing
in the morning, so they can't get access to the machines at
other times during the day to do their PMs.
M: Well FIX IT!!!
T: You mean, put things back the way they were before you changed
them - against my recommendations?
M: <dirty look> Just fix it!
This went on until he pretty-much gave up running anything - because
every time he changed something, because he didn't know how the
system worked, would backfire. With me running the office, all the
key points were covered and we did such a great job that the manager
got a promotion and went on to bigger and better things.

There is nothing that warms the heart so, as
gazing at your dog, who is sleeping on the
couch, mentioning his name, and hearing
thud-thud-thud as his tail hits the cushions.
