Hi Bruce,
I know of no special measures to avoid being bitten other than plug in
the load (set) side first. But the listed rationale for that is to
avoid opening the line side and interrupting something else on the circuit.
Common sense seems to be a lost art.
I seem to recall that the screw you're talking about was somewhat
recessed when properly installed. I don't recall having been bit by
one. Others may have had a different experience.
