Joe,
I had never seen that model MITE before! Apparently a portable ASCII
terminal, but they are using the original hexagonal printing cylinder as
it only prints upper case! (lower case ASCII is converted to upper case).
I wonder about the seller's "70s" date. I was trained on the tactical
MITEs in the Army in late 1967 and we were told they had gone out of
business and it was hard to get parts. (Maybe MITE had just stopped
production of the military units? Or maybe they were resurrected to cash
in on the computer market?)
An Internet search did turn up two mentions of this terminal in Nov 1972
& Jan 1973 "Computerworld" magazine issues, so "1970s" is legitimate.
This unit does not have a motor (just solenoids &/or steppers?). There
is an article in RTTY Journal, May-June 1976, on the MITE Model 119A, a
miniature printer that only typed 26 characters per line. It had no
motor and instead used 9 solenoids for all mechanical functions.
(I am not bidding on it, AWA is mainly interested in communications, not
computer, equipment.)
Have fun & thanks,
Duncan
