[GreenKeys] How did you acquire your Teletypes?

The first one I ever had (in 1967, high school) was on loan from a local
ham. The first ones I actually owned, in 1970, were model 15s being
discarded at the Air force base I was assigned to. I later gave them to
friends when I moved. They set up a link with AFSK modems into CB
radios. Later in the 70s, just expressing an interest would yield many
offers for a few dollars or less. Most of these, however, were hacked on
or incomplete. You might need to find and accept two or more to build a
good one. Surplus Kleinschmidts were abundant for $10.00 or free at
hamfests. Model 28s were around, but cost a good bit more. I passed all
of mine on to other people in the 1980s, but regained interest about
fifteen years ago and have been slowly collecting and restoring them.
Almost all of these have been located via the internet, they are not
seen so often at hamfests any more. Shipping or traveling to pick them
up has been the greatest expense. Once the virus is controlled and
hamfests return, I may try carrying a "Teletypes Wanted" sign and see
who responds.
