Just today someone posted a question about how to renew
cracking microphone cables. There isn't any way, when this stuff
begins to dry out and crack its gone. There is also some sort of
plastic foam commonly used to line carrying cases that
disintegrates and can turn to mush. I don't know what it is but
its a PITA to get cleaned out. Might be a related plastic. At
least here you can replace the tubing.
I think the danger of damaging something by replacing the
connectors makes the appearance less important. I've seen other
types of flexible plastic split tubing but couldn't find it with
a Google search. I know its out there, looks a lot like
continuous tubing.
