I started working on a CAD model of the hammer that Nick sent me last night while I was on the weekly Military Radio Collectors Group net. It appears to me that there is a very small draft angle in the molding, widest at the rear face and narrowest at the striking face. The draft angle appears to be only 0.3 degrees, so it's barely perceptible by feel. I don't have anything for measuring angles that small, but I estimated it with micrometer caliper measurements. The center hole appears to have been made with a side action in the mold. The outline of the round pin that the rectangular center hole core was machined onto is faintly visible on the hammer. I can't tell if the center hole has a draft angle, because I can't measure it quite as accurately with the tools I have. Not that it really matters; I'm just curious about how it was made.
