Having grown up with a father who is a WWII signal corps veteran and was an active ham, what always tickled me as a child was the creative abuse of the phonetic alphabet.  In their weekly get together on 40 meters, My father, W8LUJ was Love Uncle John, my grandfather W9JJH was John John Henry.  My aunt, his sister, W3MPU was Mighty Pretty Undrware, her husband, W3EUN was Ever Uncle Nelson -- but in his case, his name was really Nelson.

Zee Zed?  I went to a largely British run school in 5th and 8th grades, which thoroughly messed up my spelling because they thoroughly disapproved of US spellings, forcing colour on me, only to have that criticized when I got back to our colorful shores.
