I've seen this film before, but it always brings back memories. By the time
this film was made, it looks like they had replaced most of the R-390A's
with R-1051's for HF receiving. Did see some CV-17 TU's, WRR-3 VLF
receivers, and Model 28 variants.....

(USS Stallion, ATA193).

ESA is "Electrical Service Assembly" which is an external box added to a
Teletype set to provide things like a Selector Magnet Driver, Line Relay,
etc.
Here is an example ESA used with the skintight (rack mount) 28KSR. Note it
has a tube-type SMD. http://www.navy-radio.com/tty/esa-173395.jpg
Low-level (+/-6v signalling) Teletype sets also had ESA boxes - see for
example http://www.navy-radio.com/tty/ugc77.htm
I recently found that there is an ESA 334439 for a high-level compact KSR
(AN/UGC-20B) which can transmit either 60ma (130v) or 70uA (1.5v). 323116
(MK-1158/UG) is the mod kit to make a UGC-20 into a UGC-20B - but I have
found no other info on that ESA so far.
50524S is the spec for this mod - Please let me know if you can help with
info, etc.
Cheers,
Nick England K4NYW

I am also looking for specifications 50546S and 50547S which cover how to
convert an AN/UGC-20 to photoelectric operation like the UGC-77.
The mod kit is Teletype 334438 (Navy MK-1625/U) The Navy numbers for these
specifications are NAVSHIPS 0967-LP-438-8010 NAVSHIPS 0967-LP-438-8020
You can see the UGC-77 photoelectric mechanism at
http://www.navy-radio.com/tty/ugc77.htm

Thanks, Dan.
We wouldn't have gotten away with sideburns like that in the Army in 1970!?
Always interesting to see how the other half lived.

Duncan & Group
Same for the Navy. I was told that there was a Navy Regulation governing the
maximum length of sideburns.
It referred to some named part of the ear as the lowest a sideburn could be.
I zoomed in on those 'burns' also.
I was in between June 1957 and March of 1961. I enlisted for four years but
was one of thousands who were able to take advantage of a service wide 90
day cut in EAOS dates.

Hello everyone.
This is a demodulator I've been looking for information on, but not an
obscure or home built one. It is either HAL/Mainline and very well-built,
and from checking it in an open area with a fire extinguisher, no ceremonial
smoke ascends. No burnt offering to the goddess Electra today!
With the "hood up", everything looks clean. When "Auto" is selected a meaty
"KERCHUNK" ensues from the beefy GE relay- I did this with my hand on its
case and it was SOLID. It felt like it barked out "ACHTUNG!" Besides the two
stacked ST-5 cards, there is a smaller board right behind the meter on the
bottom of the case that looks like it was a later add-on. The 2206 chip,
4N28 opto and a Teledyne 712-D TO-5 cased relay make me wonder about this...
I'd like to get it back up and running. It might not take much. Thank you in
advance for any help!
73!
Mark

interesting little spud.
The boards? Right here, at the bottom of the page:
