Actually, they don't. At a design current of 3 mA they last 50,000
hours, or about 5.7 years. The ST-6 seems to be running them at
2 mA, a rough guess of 10 years at that point, with a 50% duty
cycle, mark/space, that would extend it out to 20 years.
My ST-6 manual was printed in 1975. That's 45 years ago.
One of the common failures on Drake equipment is the NE2 on
the front panel. Similar vintage equipment.
