Good morning,

I have finally identified a part I have, it's part of the tape winder in 
a AN/TGC-1A.  I don't have the reel or any of the tape guide rollers, 
just the gear box and motor.

I'd put it to use if I can find or make a reel for it.

What did they do  with the tape after winding it.  I've seen a lot of 
references to monitoring reperfs.  Did they just keep the tape in case 
the traffic got lost further down the line and use for rebroadcast. If 
not needed, then just dump it or what?  Does one side of the reel come 
off?

I remember seeing one plastic reel involved with CNC tape production 
that did come off.
