I've also been working on a USB to Baudot TTY converter (it has other
capabilities as well). Most of that has been ad hoc (meaning hand wired),
but I've recently started doing PC board layouts using KiCad (pronounced
Key Cad) and having boards made in China. The PC boards are surprisingly
low cost and of good quality. I'm just finishing up a project I call
DB-Uno (like an Arduino Uno but using an AVR128DB32 MCU). Once that's out
of the way I plan to do a layout of the USB TTY converter. The converter's
primary inputs are USB ASCII serial and AFSK audio (from ITTY) and the
primary output is an electronic selector magnet driver for TTY loops. The
highest voltage used is 36 volts (but I'm also experimenting with 48
volts, but I don't think I'll need to go above 36 at this point). The
only sticking point is the world-wide semiconductor shortage. Parts
(especially micro controllers) are getting very hard to obtain through
distribution.
