I've seen 1/4 inch plugs with an insulating sleeve held in place by a
small brass screw just waiting to bite!
The TRS jacks I used are

.
I have a cable coming from each piece of equipment (Teletype 14TD, 14
typing reperf, and 15) with a 1/4 inch TRS plug on the end. I can plug
these into one of the jacks on the 2 4x4 boxes. One box has series wired
jacks driven ty the Flesher TU170. The other box is driven by a loop
supply with series current limit resistor. Most of the time, the 15 and
14TD are connected to the TU 170 and the typing reperf on the loop supply.
But, they can be moved around as needed.
