 Harold,
"I wonder about "tailing" an input file and appending tones to an outputfile so a continuous stream could be encoded."
Yes I'm wondering about that too. I hope to get to that point. As an experiment I tried "cat file.wav >> named_pipe.wav "where the named pipe was located in /var/www/html but could not play that from a web browser.I think I am going to need some streaming server to handle that part of the equation. Not there yet.Still researching audio streams. Also still researching RSS feeds as a source of constant input.Any other ideas?RSS seems to be falling out of favor so maybe I need to be looking ahead at something more current.
Thanks for giving it a try.-Steve AD8CI

That's pretty clever! It decodes properly on DroidRTTY on my cell phone.

Handling numbers and punctuation could keep track of whether you are in
LTRS or FIGS, or, very simply, encode, for example, the number 1 as FIGS 1
LTRS. You can stay with the script just using sox to concatenate the audio
files instead of trying to keep track of where you are.

I wonder about "tailing" an input file and appending tones to an output
file so a continuous stream could be encoded.
