Russ Miller,

I thank you for the clarification. So my 32 and Andy's are Telex machines.

---------------------------------------------------------

Andy,

I am going to save you weeks of tracing wires through the schematic.

Take the cover off. There should be 3 screws on the back, four on the front and one on the side of the tape reader.

Looking from behind the machine, identify jack R2 in the panel of eight in the panel of eight Molex jacks. The numbers are stamped clearly in the metal. R2 is the bottom left (from the back) It has a jumper from pin-11 to pin-8. Pull it out. You need to connect your external loop to Pin-11 (Positive) and Pin-5 (Negative) You wil observe pin - 8 is directly below Pin-11 and pin-5 is directly below pin-8

I had male Molex pins on hand, soldered them to my new loop wire and plugged them in the jack without using a plug. You could alwas move Pin 8 to Pin 5 and re-use the old plug.

Of course you will need a terminal unit to convert the tones from ITTY to loop current. I really like the IRL FSK-1000 if you can find one. The going price is around $200 Connect a cable from the earphone jack on your computer to the audio input of the TU. Plug the new loop wire from the 32 into the TU, observing polarity, set the rangefinder and print.

That 32 prints only 68 charcters per line and ITTY can transmit as much as 72. So you may occasionally pile up a few charcters at the end of a line.

If your computer is no newer than windows 7, You can load MMTTY, use a splitter to run a second cable from the earphone jack to the line input and print on the screen also.

MMTTY does not seem to work on Windows 8 or 10.
