I guarantee mercury relays are fast enough. I am using a half dozen for various purposes and I have no problem at all with them.
You can put your ear to them and hear them chatter just like a selector magnet. Of course you can tell RY's just by listening. And the teletype on the keyed loop types just fine.

I am using one right now to put MMTTY into my 60 mil loop to try to bring a NOS 28 to life.
