Time for an anecdote. Teletype R&D used to have a yearly engineering
convocation with speakers from inside and outside the company. One of
the talks, which hardly needed any talking, just the visual display,
was by a manufacturing engineer. He had two 4x8 sheets of plywood on
easels, each one filled with connectors we were using and the part
numbers. His plea was obvious: before you release yet another connector,
look at the ones we are already using and see if one of them won't do.
