 Tom,
  Try typing all letters not figs.  While it is typing watch the platen closely to see if it is drifting up and down.Looks like maybe it has some play in it.

Jerry, that jig sounds great - but I do not have one.
The 15 used to look great. All this trouble started when I replaced the broken "S" pullbar.
