[GreenKeys] ASR33 Typing by itself at powerup

Hi Peter,

I am going down a similar path to you with my own ARS-33, and have
discovered that every time I remove the keyboard, I have to be very careful
to get the H block connecting the keyboard to the printer mechanism right
as well as ensure that the keyboard is physically in the correct location.

Because you commented about taking springs off the bottom of the keyboard,
and cleaning them I am assuming you removed the keyboard. If the physical
alignment of the keyboard is out on the baseplate, then the mechanical
keyboard reset stays tripped and it keeps the distributor tripped,
resulting in constantly chattering as if the loop was open irrespective of
being in online or local mode.

There are a couple of prople on the web who have documented this: person
named REVK identified this in his blog:
https://www.revk.uk/2020/12/asr33-restoration.html and there is also an
entry here : https://wiki.theretrowagon.com/wiki/Teletype_Model_33

You will find that the Teletype manuals are amazing resources. There is an
awesome adjustment manual located at
https://www.soemtron.org/downloads/teletypes/model33bulletin310bvol2manual1974.zip

Section 2.16 talks about the Distributor Trip Linkage - Essentially, there
is a small set screw that if you need to adjust it, moves the location of
the H Plate to cope with the new location of the keyboard. Alternately,
loosen the keyboard hold down screws, and move the keyboard slightly to see
if it stops chattering.

Good luck and have fun. Today I will replace a faulty clutch in my
distributor.

Kindest regards,

Doug Jackson
