One of the first commercial ham packet TNCs was the GLB PK-1.  It would 
autobaud to the attached terminal, including a Baudot terminal aka 
Teletype machine.  There was simple interface board they sold -- or you 
could breadboard it yourself, it was fairly simple -- that would go 
between the keyboard and the loop supply and selector magnets and the 
TNC, and you could get on packet with a Teletype machine.
