[GreenKeys] Woodtone model 15 cover.

I have a 15 cover that has the obligatory 50 zillion plus layers of paint.
While taking all the plates and covers off it to strip/sand it I noticed it
was originally
The faux woodtone.
Has anyone tried refinishing one like this?
I'd imagine its done doing the lighter color as a base coat and letting
that dry then taking a brush dipped and excess wiped in the dark color and
using that for the "Grain/streaks" I've done this with latex house paint
but not with Enamel or Lacquer. Not sure what technique was used to do
this???
Ideas??

I can always make it WU green!! LOL! I have a ton of that.
