A simple-minded question from a simple-minded person...

At what character count should the end-of-line bell on a 32 ring?

Mine is ringing at 60, which doesn't seem right to me.

I am limiting the lines in my news feed to 67 characters
absolute max. (barring an occasional line I forget to shorten,)
My bell is ringing with almost every line. Are my lines too
long or is my bell out of adjustment?

I gave my recently acquired Flesher TU-170 a complete
alignment and it is fine on the bench. I have to hook it
up to a Teletype next for a final smoke test.

Same with a Heathkit HD-3030, except I had to steal
two boards from another that has a bad transformer,
install two rectifiers for the loop supply and give it
a shorting type 1/4" jack. It is now also ready for a
TTY and final smoke test.

Hint: if you have 3-wire jacks with shorting contacts
on the tip and ring, use the one on the tip. If you use
the one on the ring, there is a momentary break in
the loop when you insert the plug - not so with the
tip contact.

I am in the market for a working power transformer .
for a Heathkit HD-3030. or better yet, one with a
good mother board, and for some reason, no
plug-in boards. A case doesn't matter either.
The power transformer is soldered onto the
motherboard. I have not been able to getthe
bad one off yet, much less be ready to replace it.
I have been repairing electronics since one had
to test tubes. I am not inexperienced. Anyway,
I would like to bring the other unit up as well.

I thought my favorite, an IRL FSK-100, had a bad
channel. After working on the other two units
and having trouble with setting unfamiliar switches
I had enough sense to check the switches.....
Cockpit error! I had a switch set wrong.One flick
of the switch and I am printing on my 20 Mil 32
again and a mercury relay is keying a 60 mil
loop for my 15 or either working 28.

One final question. Can anyone provide the specs
on a Western Electric 303G mercury relay. I found
one in my junk box and cannot find the specs on-line.

I just observed, on my 32, the the UTC on my news
stream was12 hours out. I checked, and so was
the local time on the computer. It is now fixed.

Just found another long line and fixed it!
