Hi John and all,
An update: Not sure if it was due to the battery's voltage gradually
decreasing, but after some slight cleaning on the areas I presumed to be
contacts (after a lot of manual rotation and observation), I've been able
to get the typed keys to send the right signals. Sometimes the transfer
levers don't engage (select ones that are not the carriage return or line
feed...likely meaning a sign for cleaning) but most of the time it's
worked. I've narrowed it down to the leftmost (#1) bit.
The start/stop selector lever was especially stuck, so I assume that would
be one of the key elements preventing the keyboard signal from getting sent
to the rest of the unit.
I'll continue my surface cleaning, but I suppose a more permanent loop
supply solution could be a consideration. That being said, these 9V simple
tests have indeed proven to result in a little joy, as you quoted.
My next issue to resolve is the carriage return, which was working fine in
my initial tests but now it seems that something isn't engaging in order
for the spacing to resume. It only resets itself if I shut off the power
and get it on again after a while.
Regards,
Jomar
