Your problem is pretty common in the ICOM 746 Pro II although ICOM does not
like to admit it. It is caused by a feedback path through the open (when
transmitting) contact of the antenna relay which causes the transmitter to
go into oscillation. You can confirm this by progressively switching in the
6, 12 or 18 dB antenna attenuator until the problem goes away. The antenna
attenuator increases the loss in the feedback path and cures the problem.
If you ship it to ICOM they will change some diodes and get it going, but in
my case it work only a few days. I suggest the modification at www.mods.dk
that will entirely eliminate the problem. I did mine and it works fine. If
you cannot find it let me know and I will locate the URL.

I have a Pro II and 6 meters acts oddly. It shows an swr of 2:1 but it is
flat on my 746 on the same antenna and feed line. Also, when I key the mic,
it transmits in ssb with no input to the mike, as if it were on fm or am.
Any ideas?
