Subject: [Johnson] re: Valiant meter not working

Hi everyone. Just picked up a good Valiant I. Output seems good but =
=3D
the meter does not work at any setting... never a flicker. How can I =
=3D
check the meter or wiring? Thanks from Ron VE4SR

****** It may be a case of the meter just being stuck... with a bit of =
dirt between the moving armature and the fixed magnet. it happened to me =
on a Ranger 1 and I looked around for six months trying to find another =
meter. Couldn't find one. A mate of mine is a jeweller and he offered to =
have a look at it. He fixed it easily as he has the gear to work on that =
sort of thing. I have taken several meters to him over the years and he =
always is able to fix it.

To check it, disconnect one of the leads to the meter, and wipe an =
ohmmeter pair of prods across the two terminals EXTREMELY BRIEFLY!!! Set =
the meter on "Lowest ohms setting" (it has the lowest voltage at the =
prods) and If the meter needle flickers. you will know it's the =
transmitter circuitry. If there is nobody home... it's probably a "stuck =
needle" so you will have to be friendly to your local one man band =
jeweller (are there any left these days?)

Just some ideas I have used
