Removal of the VFO from a ranger or valiant is fraught with dangers... =
the biggest problem is the tiny coupling to the vernier drive which is =
extremely fragile and if you prang it like I did, you have to make up =
another one using the old parts and a piece of fiberglass circuit board =
which is very fiddly to do.The VFO box will not slide straight back away =
from the back of the vernier dial, It requires lifting up vertically =
because of the lugs at the base. This results in the coupling breaking.=20

Probably the best approach is to remove the side plate surround and =
leave the VFO in place and get at the resistor from there. I can't =
remember how I did it or the sequence, but I did experience the sick =
feeling in my stomach when I broke the coupling. Be very careful!

Good luck

"The wireless telegraph is not difficult to understand.
The ordinary telegraph is like a very long cat.
You pull the tail in New York, and it meows in Los Angeles.
The wireless is the same, only without the cat."
