[Johnson] Valiant VFO help

Can't answer the question about removing the whole VFO cover but I can =
tell you what I did to replace the 18K resistor.  I removed just the =
left side (as you look at the front panel)VFO panel, easy to do.  I =
clipped out the horribly burned up 18K resistor, soldered two wires and =
brought them down and through a grommet already on the VFO chassis, =
added a solderlug strip to the chassis directly below the vfo, and =
soldered the wires and new high power 18K resistor down there.  Works =
like a champ, plus removes that heat generator from the VFO cabinet.  I =
reattached the vfo side panel and that was it.  I didn't have to remove =
the entire VFO cabinet nor mess with those little phenolic adjustments =
on the top.
