There isn't a great deal of difference between the two except that the J310 can
run about twice the drain current. This may aid some in strong signal handling
ability although the difference will likely be small.

Since you're also a vhf guy...we used to use the 2N5486 for the oscillator and
amplifier stages in low cost LO chains with good results up through 192 MHz. All
in all, a pretty good low buck part.
