Greetings Kurt,
5/8 wave antennas are a favorite of mine but not for hifers, in fact I am
looking for the lowest gain antenna possible
.
An isotropic antenna would seem the best if they were real and not just
theoretical.
The rules on the hifer band are different from any other radio rules that I
am aware of. We must keep our signals at or below 10,000 microvolts/meter at
30 meters so a gain antenna such as a 5/8 wave would cause us to cut power
accordingly and we would end up with the same field strength in one
direction but less in others.
My theory is to use the most omnidirectional antenna possible (in all
directions) to allow as much power to be used as possible.
I find the 1/4 wave ground plane to be a very practical antenna until I find
something better. Possibly an array of ground planes every 120 meters. I
once figured that I could run a kilowatt if I had 3000 square miles of
antennas. .... ..
