[Lowfer] LF QSOs

Hey guys,
Let's have a bit of a reality check here. First of all LEK and group are
doing this QSOing on New Years day via surface wave. - Very predictable,
assuming good beacon installations and minimal local noise. Normal CW
skywave communication is very rare - and to predict that on a predetermined
day the conditions will be right...... well, maybe a 1 in 20 probability at
the very best?
Don't get me wrong; I think LF QSOs at 1w are super! I still get a kick out
of LISTENING to TH at about 275 miles, maybe 10 times, at best, in a 100-day
season. Most of the time when I copy him it is too weak to recognize
anything but his repeating _ ....
In the "good old days" there were many Lowfer guys that had never copied a
skywave beacon in years of listening . Conversely there were many beacon
operators that never had anyone copy their signal in years of sending.
........And I won't go into the disappointing news that a big percentage of
the active senders back then were cheating on the power input.
