Printed out HiFER info this morning, will get parts within the month...
Mulled over antenna connection ideas, problems here with snow, and concerned
with sealing coax, I think I will just have an insulated stud coming out of
the side of the TX case so snow can't build up against it and a short jumper
from the stud to the antenna. The TX and antenna will be elevated 1' - 2'
in a 1 acre clearing with surrounding vegatation no more than 3' for 100
acres in any direction.

Has anyone noticed severe frequency drift problems with the epson
oscillators due to temperature? The temp here ranges from -22 a couple
winters back to +122 last summer. Any stability ideas?

My design will have about 3" closed cell foam insulation, and one idea I
always had was to secure a small low current light bulb to a crystal or
oscillator to keep it at a constant temperature, maybe with a thermistor
in-line. I have a solar panel that puts out a few hundred mA, that should
be enough to run a small low current bulb and charge a 7 or 12 AH gel cell
for the TX.

Any comments or ideas?

Kurt
