I think a thermistor would not be stable enough over time, I think the
temperature plot would look like a sine wave.  I am thinking a low voltage
incandenscent bulb, three volts maybe, a low dropout regulator run from 12V
so the bulb would remain constant even to the point the TX regulator shuts
down.  Would have to run some current tests on bulbs available, I am
thinking something from a hobby store, they have some pretty small bulbs.
Worst case a pricey maglite bulb, 3V, fairly low current and run hot.
