John D,

Beats the heck out of me? But it was definitely someone's calculation of the
Hifer power increase. I think this person was explaining the reason for the
unusual number for the increase in linear terms (15,848) and said this
equaled 2 db. I've made the mistake of using a multiplier of 10 instead of
20 for calculation of db more times than I'd want to admit.
BUT all isn't lost, not to mention the new appeal of the Hifer band to me.
I think this minimal discernable power increase is debate could be even more
important. Now, can somebody explain how changes of 0.1db in S/N can be
significant? Is that due to the sharpened knee in determining a 1 or a 0
when zillions of correlations arebeing performed? I would think the signal
isn't that constant, no matter what the frequency band, from Lowfer to EME,
to work that way.
