Yes, I know ... I'm using one of those Epson oscillators, too.  I was 
suggesting gooping it to the package, like you say.

As far as soldering to the xtal can, in that link I sent you Lyle said he 
carefully unsoldered one lead of the thermistor, carefully tinned the 
crystal can, carefully soldered the thermistor to the can, and then 
grounded the can.  The remaining thermistor lead was connected to +5.

But that is for a crystal.

In your case, (I think most of us are using those oscillators) I was 
suggesting leaving the thermistor leads intact and using some sort of 
adhesive, as Lyle suggests as an alternative.

But like I said, I haven't done this myself, but do intend to try it.
