We're home in MA this weekend. Your frequency looked right on when I saw it

Good shot! There aren't many stations with a really clear channel any more.
The sad part is that many (not all) of the small guys who were allowed
nighttime facilities on those channels now just carry the same dumb
satellite talk programs that you hear all over the dial. The original "big"
stations that still do live programming may only occasionally be heard
outside of their regions. Truth be told, however, few AM stations make any
money from their skywave coverage. Advertisers generally buy time for local
impact.
Anyway, I did hear back from KFI again, and they are working on the QSLs.
Still no real explanation of the cause of the frequency excursions.
