I repeat a golden oldie anecdote: G&G told me around 1973 that
their source of BC-342 was France. G&G were buying up the
diversity pairs and rewiring the slaved unit to run on its own. I placed
an order for one, and for one BC-348, didn't receive any response
til 6 or 9 months later, asking me if i was still interested, by which
time i wasn't. As fate would have it, i bought a couple of the
Societè Francaise de Radio BC-342 with new Fr. language
nameplate, out here. With "DIAL LIGHT" knob misspelled
"DIAL LINGTH" on the front panel. When i was in France around
that year, i noted in the back of magazine "Le Haut Parleur de
Radio - TV" a number of ads for BC-312s and a few others,
reminding me of the late '40s ads in our Radio News. So i assume
these receivers went on to a longer service life there.
