[Milsurplus] Scanning

I have been following this discussion w/great interest, as I have very good quality original manuals for the RT-68/GRC and its PP-109. I plan to scan these and donate them to WS#19 and BAMA, but want to "do it right."

I agree w/Robert and the Gang: regarding the color scanning of B&W images. I was involved w/an aerial photo archive project 7 years ago and the "Project Leader" insisted on color scanning at 600 dpi, thinking this was the best way to preserve the original appearance. As a result, after most of a year and many Person-Years of time overall, we ended up w/imagery that was merely "OK", and ENORMOUS files requiring several hundred CD's per set of photos. The End Users used the product on a last resort basis, if at all because the files would crash most graphics systems available at the time.......
