Instead of "architecture" i should perhaps have said "form factor", which is
approximately similar to BC-654 in overall proportions.

The odd shaped thing setting alongside the radio, that must have been
the dynamotor. I thought it looked like a rice cooker.

If i see that seller again, i'll ask him how he happened to get that thing 
over
here. Maybe it was from back when Xu was selling a wide range of equipment.

One thing i don't quite get, is the tx for this separates set is known as 
"Type 81
transmitter", while the backpack solidstate rig is also known as "Type 81" 
???
I know Chinese like numbers "8" and "1", as in "number one" and "lucky 
eight".
Chinese pay thousands of dollar-equivalents to get license plates full of 
"8"s.
