What do yah mean, "still using"?  That and VHF DF was all
we had, and they weren't "towers".  Mostly long wires, and
often flat-tops 80 feet high and 150 feet long.  Mainly BC-191
transmitters, or  T-5's for more power.   Any of you
were flying in Korea in 1950 and 51?  Remember the "TG"
beacon at Taegu?   That beacon could be heard a long, long way
at night.  ADF approaches were the way to go, and there weren't
that many four-course radio ranges in the area.  Trivia:  One of
my small group's projects was coordination with the Japanese
CAA on installing a network of LF beacons, (our equipment
and money), to establish civil airways throught the country.  1952.
