Add one more to the 312/342 advantages column: with the
watch option, you can tell local time right off the front panel.

Now backstep a moment. It was posted that over ocean flights
had to monitor 500 kcs. I don't know when this may have started,
but for example, consider this: all those B-18 and B-17 ferried
to Philippines before the war, and flying to Australia also. They
had no LF liaison receive; only the DF receiver covered the 
LF and "AM broadcast band". I suspect they DIDN'T monitor
500 kcs as they flew, altho they COULD transmit 500 if they
were in trouble. I think the clue is that the LF enhanced BC-348
was not to communicate with ships. Position reports, when sent,
were on HF to bases, not ships, anyway. The LF band BC-348 
was for working with the occasional overseas ground station 
limited to LF equipment - stations belonging to other countries.

Now is this correct: did the Navy only really have the ATC/ART-13
with the O-??? LF oscillator?   -Hue Miller
